How it works

An AI that reads marine newsletters so you never have to.

The short version is three steps. The long version is below, for people who like to know what's in the sausage.

  1. 01

    We gather the offers

Marine store newsletters bring the sales to one place: boating essentials, sailing kit, electronics and fishing gear.

  2. 02

    We make the shortlist

AI helps sort the offers into an easy-to-read selection, with the price and a short explanation of why the gear caught our eye.

  3. 03

You choose what fits your boat

The pipeline

From retailer's send button to your Thursday morning.

  1. 01

    Ingest

    One inbox, every retailer

A dedicated mailbox is subscribed to 61 retailers. Every marketing email, catalogue and flash-sale blast lands there. Roughly 41 a week, more in the lead-up to Christmas and Father's Day.

Emails are archived raw, so we can re-process history when the models improve.

  2. 02

    Parse

    Emails become offers

A language model reads each email and extracts individual offers: product, brand, sale price, quoted 'was' price, promo code, end date and the link. A catalogue email might yield 60 offers; a flash sale, 3.

Images are OCR'd too, because half the marine industry still puts the price in a JPEG.

  3. 03

    Match

    Same product, different shop

Offers are matched to a canonical product across retailers so 'Garmin STRIKER Vivid 7sv' at three stores is one product with three prices, not three deals.

This is where fake 'was' prices die: if nobody has sold it at that price in 12 months, it isn't the reference.

  4. 04

    Rank

    Score what actually matters

Each offer is scored 0 to 100 on discount against real price history, how rarely the product goes on sale, stock and end-date urgency, and seasonal relevance to Australian boaties.

A 15% drop on an anchor winch that never goes on sale can outrank 50% off a novelty bottle opener.

  5. 05

    Edit

A human reads the top 30

Before Thursday, a person checks the highest-ranked offers, kills anything that smells off, and writes the one-line 'why' you see on each deal.

The AI drafts; the human signs off. Both are named in the issue if we get one wrong.

  6. 06

    Send

    Thursday, 7:00am AEST

Ten to fifteen deals, one email, plain links straight to the retailer. Unsubscribe link at the bottom of every issue.

That's the only email you will ever get from us. No welcome series, no 'we miss you'.

The funnel, in numbers

Most of what retailers send is noise.

For each recent issue: how many individual offers the parser pulled out of the newsletters, and how many the ranker and editor let through. Browse the issue archive to see what survived.

House rules

Things we won't do.

Full details in our disclaimer and privacy policy. The retailers we read are listed on the retailers page.

  • Nobody can pay for placement. Retailers can't see the list before it goes out.
  • We link straight to the retailer. Some links carry an affiliate tag; it never changes the price or the ranking.
  • Your email address is used to send you one newsletter a week, and for nothing else.
  • If a deal turns out to be wrong, we say so in the next issue.

Sounds reasonable?
