Marine electronics move on an annual model cycle. Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad and Humminbird announce new units around the northern-hemisphere boat shows in January and February, which means Australian retailers clear last year's stock through autumn and again before Christmas. The best prices on a 'current' sounder are almost always on the model that is about to be superseded, and it will do everything a weekend angler needs.
Watch the bundle. A headline price without a transducer, or with a basic transducer where the marketing shows side-imaging screenshots, is not the deal it looks like. Our ranker compares like-for-like bundles across retailers, and the 'why' line on each deal tells you exactly what's in the box.
Grey imports show up cheap online. Australian retailers with local warranty and a physical counter are worth a modest premium, especially for anything you'd have to post back to Sydney or Melbourne for repair.
